We're still waiting for the other shoe to drop: there's so much information out there about what looks a lot like money laundering on the part of our President and some of his family members, but somehow it's not getting to the right place, in the right form, or whatever it is that's the problem. Still there are some things we do know, and more that we can speculate about. Did our President, some time back, agree to hurt his country with bad policies in return for millions of dollars from the Chinese? And how could anyone be motivated to do something that awful? Granted, there will be a tough standard for proof, as there are for especially awful such things. But I have an idea of how a relatively ordinary person could have been talked into doing just that. We know that his son Hunter had a head injury from the car accident that killed his mother, and maybe he sustained some brain damage. Maybe that's how he developed his well-known addictions, a lack of impulse control. He apparently went into serious debt doing these things, more than he could ever pay back, at least by legal means. Maybe that's when some international power players became interested in him: he was well-connected, and he needed lots of money. The Bidens went to China and did indeed come back with lots of money. But there's a lot less detail available about that, in contrast with the Ukrainian situation. What could have happened, though? Perhaps the Chinese said to Biden, very secretly, we'll give you millions if you promise to adopt these policies, should you become President. Maybe they spelled out what we've come to suspect: 1) Open the southern border, 2) shut down the fossil fuels industry, 3) switch to a form of energy requiring dependence on China for mined materials, 3) force everyone to buy new, expensive cars that don't quite work by an unrealistic deadline, 4) engage in extra-budget spending on unvetted, unmonitored recipients, and so on. Maybe, if Biden had had his wits about him, he might have said, but that could hurt my country! I couldn't do that. The Chinese then replied, you don't have to do any of this unless you become President. But you can take the money now. Well, Biden might have said, of course I won't run for President. Is it still a deal? Yes, the Chinese said, no problem! So Biden refused to run in 2016, citing his age. Unfortunately, Donald Trump wound up getting elected, which all the leading Democrats agreed was a disaster. Then they decided that the only person who could beat Trump in 2020 was Biden (and how was that? Was there external persuasion or deal-making?) So they nagged him relentlessly, and he finally gave in. But he still had a plan: he would run what had to be a losing campaign. He hid out in his basement, figuring that would create a terrible impression. But, thanks to the problems created by the COVID pandemic and the Democrat Party leadership's clever strategy, America elected Biden. After all, they argued, Biden was hiding from COVID. I wonder: did he let on to the Democratic Party leadership what his problem with being President was? Did they say, no problem, we'll kill every attempt to impeach you. We'll just keep saying, there's nothing here, no proof. We've got control of the Senate; this will go nowhere. And we have a persuasive program: abortion rights alone should carry the day. And most Americans believe all politicians are corrupt anyway; they've stopped caring. They'll never know, of course. The issue is bribery (Article II, Section IV of the Constitution), a fairly thorny one. The House needs to prove: 1) the Biden family received a substantial amount of money from the Chinese government and 2) it was meant to influence U.S. policy. It's not nearly as easy to prove as violations of the Emoluments clause, i.e., Article I, Section 9, Clause 8, which prohibits those holding federal office from accepting gifts from any "King, Prince, or foreign state". No legal consequences are attached to that action nor is it associated with bribery anywhere in the Constitution (although it should have been). Establishing why China was providing this money, and what the Biden family was doing with it, needs to be done in a hearing under oath. This will establish whether this money was a gift. It should be a simple process, however, if these people will cooperate. Of course, they have been extremely resistant; ideal deposition witnesses have no reason to believe that they are suspects. On the other hand, the three involved House Committees have amassed far more evidence than can be dismissed. When any at this stage say "There is no evidence", they should be suspected of being compromised. That Bob Menendez was allowed to stay in the Senate after being charged with acting as a foreign agent for Egypt should raise our suspicions of just that. |
